Team Formation

We are excited to welcome the 2016 birth year to the Academy program starting in the Fall 2024 season. Information about the intake process for current 8U (2016) players will be provided shortly after the start of the 8U Spring season in April.

Placement event dates: May 3rd, 10th, and 17th. It is not mandatory to come to all events but it is highly encouraged to attend as many as you can.

Boys: 5-6pm please arrive 15-20min early to check in.
Girls: 6-7pm please arrive 15-20min early to check in.

Placement events will be held at Stenger Soccer Complex field # 27-31.

Invitations will be sent late May. 

Families will have 48 hours to accept or decline the offer to join the program.

9U – 10U Academy Select Boys and Girls: The Academy Select Program is designed around the competitive program model.  Teams will be based on ability and will be instructed by an EDGE coach, 3 times per week. The program will place emphasis on advancing techniques, fundamentals of soccer tactics and sportsmanship to uphold the values of CESC. Teams will operate in the Colorado Soccer Association state-wide leagues playing 7v7.  The Academy Select program is directed by the 9U-10U Director of Coaching.

Practice: 75 min. per day, 2 times per week + 60min. 'Free Play Friday'

Other Notes:

• All coaches will ensure each player receives 50% playing time in each game, providing the player meets the team’s practice requirements.
• Colorado EDGE SC discourages coaches and parents from emphasizing winning and losing. The emphasis should be on the players’ participation, development, and enjoyment of the game.

Year 1 of the Academy Select program focuses on individual player development, as outlined in the Academy Select Overview.

Sessions have a focus on individual skill development and simple tactical decisions. This is drawn from the 2 year curriculum that has been developed by the club, in alignment with the Long Term Development Pathway that RCE implements across all ages.

A sample week is outlined below:

Free Play Friday – 60 minute session with RCE Staff Trainers/AS Coaches

Players from 9U & 10U practice together with a focus on playing the game. Coaching focus on this night is more about facilitating the games with reminders of what was covered in the 2 team/pool practices. This gives players the freedom to express themselves and also demonstrate an understanding of the program objectives.

Year 2 of the Academy Select program continues to develop the individual, while entering them into more complex tactical situations and scenarios.

Sessions have a focus on refining individual technical and tactical concepts with the introduction into small group tactics as outlined in the Long Term Development Pathway.
