Guide to Referees

Referees are an important part of the success of youth soccer!  Our club partners with Playthewhistle (PTW) to provide our referee services.  The referee program includes league game assignments for competitive and recreational games, tournaments, as well as referee education and mentoring.

Are you a certified referee? Get established with our club Assignors at Playthewhistle (PTW) for league and tournament game assignments. is the web based assignment system used by PTW.
  • Referees only need 1 account!
  • Are you in the PTW Assignor group 1059? Log in, click on My Assignors to view the groups you are a part of as a referee.
  • No PTW listed? Join our Group #1059 – Access Code = PTW
The web based assignment system is how referees maintain their contact information, provide availability in their personal calendar, receive game assignments, receive payment and stay informed with important email communication, just to name a few of the features.

EDGE Referee Requirements

The following are the minimum requirements for an individual to referee developmental games for the EDGE Soccer Club.

  • At least 11 (eleven) years old at the time the season begins
  • Hold a current certification with the United States Soccer Federation – Complete details at courses listed here.
  • Have a RefPay account
  • Wear the approved USSF Referee Uniform

Our referee program in Colorado is working hard to build our pool of referees, and we are making progress!
Referee Classes are scheduled throughout the State on a regular basis.

Grade 8 Field Training Sessions for Individuals 14 years of age & older (5 Hours)

Recreational Grade 9 Referee Field Training Sessions for Individuals 12 years of age and older (Small Sided Games – 2.5 Hours)

Collectively, there are 30 class & field training sessions, with Mentor/Instructors assigned.

Referee Feedback – Positive Feedback is needed, as well as poor, or matters that need to be address.  Yes, we care, and we want the Colorado Referees to be the best they can be:  Keep feedback constructive.  No rants.  If you are angry, wait 48 hours before sending the report.

Referees will be paid using the GOPay system only. For complete details about GOPay and to set up your account please visit , please note that in no case will the EDGE Soccer Club issue payment directly to referees, all funds are paid electronically and securely through GOPay.
